KAPA‘A — A Koloa man was injured Sunday morning after riding his bicycle into a highway guardrail, forcing the temporary closure of Kaumuali‘i Highway near mile marker 21.
According to a County spokesperson, the 48-year-old man was traveling eastbound with a large group bicyclists when he lost control and fell into the guardrail about 7:45 a.m. He reportedly suffered a laceration to his right arm.
Other cyclists provided first aid until medics transported him to Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital Emergency Room. The man was treated and released.
Dispatch reported that the westbound lane of Kaumuali‘i Highway was reopened to alternating traffic at 8:05 a.m. Both lanes fully reopened at 8:15 a.m. after Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel cleared the area.
