LIHU‘E — The saga of Kaiola Lingaton’s first pig hunt with his father earned the fourth-grader top honors at the Kaua‘i Association of Family and Community Education’s Character Counts essay and artwork contest.
Lenore Klass of KAFCE said Lingaton also took first in the state competition.
The award was presented during the KAFCE luncheon Saturday at the Lihu‘e Neighborhood Center.
Trustworthiness was the theme of this year’s contest, which was open to fourth-graders across the country.
Lingaton’s essay was about caring for a friend’s cat.
Zephen Kaneakua, second place, Kealalani Contrades, third place, and Austin Kersting, honorable mention, joined Lingaton at the luncheon.
