KAPA‘A — A Kapa‘a man was arrested following a single-car accident on Kuamo‘o Road Saturday afternoon, according to county officials.
Mark Simera, 54, crashed his pickup truck into a utility support pole and wires while heading up Kuamo‘o Road near mile marker around 12:30 p.m. There were no other passengers in his vehicle, according to a county news release.
Simera was transported by medics to Wilcox Memorial Hospital in Lihu‘e with minor injuries and subsequently arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant. He was also charged with third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and prohibited acts related to drug paraphernalia.
Simera has no prior local arrests or convictions for driving while intoxicated.
The Kaua‘i Police Department website reports there are 55 OVUII arrests so far in 2013, including Simera’s arrest. There were 274 OVUII arrests in 2012; 221 in 2011; and 232 in 2010.
For the period of January through March, OVUII arrests totaled 59 in 2010; 55 in 2011; 43 in 2012; and 55 in 2013.
