KAPA‘A — The scheduled Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation baseball doubleheader on Saturday was delayed due to weather. The Waimea High School Menehune traveled to Kapa‘a to take on the Warriors, but the weather would not cooperate long enough for the two clubs to finish game one.
The game would be called after the top of third inning with the score tied 0-0. To that point, Warrior pitcher Nick Tabura had been dominant allowing one hit and striking out four. Waimea pitcher Mikey Rita had matched Tabura’s effort with two innings and allowed no Kapa‘a hits.
Kapa‘a Head Coach Bryan Aiwohi said he thought the two teams would make up the rest of game one and two after the regular season schedule.
When game one restarts, Kapa‘a’s Robert Soares will be leading off for the Warriors in the bottom of the third inning.
The doubleheader is likely to have major KIF impact on the standings. Kapa‘a opened up the second half 1-0, while first-half winner Waimea sits at 0-2. Kaua‘i High School is also in the hunt despite a dismal first half (0-6) with a 2-1 record in the second half.
The Menehune will move on to play the Red Raiders Wednesday at Vidinha Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
Kapa‘a will wait until Saturday to play in another doubleheader, this time against Kaua‘i with game one starting at 10 a.m.
In other KIF news, Saturday’s softball and tennis matches were delayed due to the wet weather as well.
