PO‘IPU — Kristyn Vasconcelles edged out Kim Medeiros by eight points to earn All Around Cowgirl honors Sunday during the Kaua‘i All Girls Rodeo Association event at the CJM Country Stables.
Kristyn teamed with Alexis Vasconcelles to top the dally team roping event, marking a 23.70 average on two go’s and topped the steer undecorating event with a 6.08 average on two go’s en route to capturing 49 points over Kim’s 41 points as Reserve All Around Cowgirl.
In the steer undecorating, Kristyn topped the event, but Kim Medeiros captured the fast time for the event with a 2.44 go, despite finishing fifth with a 15.47 average on two go’s.
Medeiros topped the goat tying event, taking the event on a 22.32 go over Kristyn’s second place finish at 22.62, a difference of less than half a second. Medeiros also copped the fast time for the event with a 10.38 go.
Medeiros also bettered Kristyn in the breakaway roping, finishing in fourth place with a 17.90 average on two go’s while Kristyn settled for fifth place with a 19.34 average on two go’s.
Kira Pimental, topping that event with an 8.65 average on two go’s, also pocketed the fast time for the event with a 3.87 go.
Medeiros topped the 1st D of the 3D barrel racing event, stopping the clock at 18.141 for top honors, .025 faster than Cheyanne Tannery (18.166), who is a student at Kaua‘i High School and showed strong during the American West Prince Kuhio open barrels event.
Medeiros also captured third in the 1st D with an 18.321 go, edging out Wendy Tannery, who finished fourth at 18.392.
Kristyn finished fifth in the 1st D barrels on an 18.592 go.
Kristyn also finished fifth in the 1st D of the 3D pole bending with a 23.241. The 1st D was taken by Cheyanne Tannery on a 21.682 go, just .145 seconds faster than her mother Wendy (21.827). Medeiros finished second in the 2nd D on a 24.437 below Coryssa Silva (23.876).
The next KAGRA rodeo will be held on May 5 with the Grand Entry starting at 10 a.m. at the CJM Country Stables in Po‘ipu.
