LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i pitcher Ka‘a La‘amea led the Red Raiders’ in 15-0 and 12-2 wins over the Kapa‘a Warriors Saturday in a home doubleheader at Isenberg Park.
In the opener, La‘amea helped herself in the batter’s box, leading the offense with a homerun in the third inning when Kaua‘i pushed 12 runs across the plate on eight hits.
On the mound, La‘amea picked up the win with no Kapa‘a runs scoring. However, La‘amea allowed five hits on four walks while striking out three Warrior batters.
Kapa‘a picked up singles by Aliyah Cummings in the fifth, Destiny Navalta in the third, Kalia Kaui in the first, Kelsie Gorospe-Keliipuleole in the fourth, and Kailana Kaimina‘auao in the second.
Kaui picked up the loss in game one, allowing eight hits with five strikeouts while walking nine Kaua‘i batters and hitting two.
Kyana Hirokane swang the bat well with a double and a single while scoring twice. Kailee Nii also doubled, singled and scored twice.
Catcher Tammie Yoshimori finished with two singles and scored three times. Jenessa Maghanoy-Louis singled and scored once.
La‘amea warmed up in game two, holding Kapa‘a to just one hit, a single from Kaui in the fourth inning, while striking out two, walking four batters and hitting a batter.
Kapa‘a scored its runs from Cummings, who walked in the opening inning, and Analeigha Carvalho-Toloai, who walked in the fourth inning.
Kapa‘a also added four stolen bases, two by Gorospe, and one each from Jordan Lopez and Kaimina‘auao.
Kaua‘i put its 12 runs on the board on 10 hits. Yoshimori led the Red Raiders by conking a homerun in the second inning. Overall, Yoshimori was perfect in the batter’s box, adding two singles and scoring all three times she reached base.
Maghanoy-Louis finished 3 for 4 with two singles and a double while scoring twice.
Kayrlee Malapit tripled and scored once in the first inning when Kaua‘i jumped ahead with seven runs on three hits.
Nii added two singles and scored once, and Aleigha “Red” Scovel singled and scored once to round out the Raider offense.
Kaui suffered her second loss of the day, giving up 10 hits with one strikeout while walking two batters and hitting two.
The Warriors next host Waimea in a single game Wednesday at the Kapa‘a High School facility starting at 3:30 p.m.
The Wednesday Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation softball games normally start at 5:30 p.m. for the single match, but Kapa‘a’s softball facility does not have lights, forcing the early start.
