LIHU‘E — The deadline for submitting applications for the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Hall of Honor is April 30, said William “Bill” Arakaki, the Kaua‘i Complex Area Superintendent for the Department of Education and Kaua‘i representative to the HHSAA Hall of Honor.
The postmark deadline for the nomination application is April 30, according to Arakaki.
“I encourage all of our high schools to submit forms for those student-athletes who qualify for this prestigious honor,” Arakaki said in an email. “As a reminder, athletes must be ‘approved’ by the school. This means the forms should be routed through the school and not mailed, or delivered to the HHSAA by a parent, or the prospective student-athlete.”
Twelve senior student-athletes will be inducted into the HHSAA Hall of Honor following a thorough screening process on May 18 and 19 by a 15-person committee of athletic directors, administrators, coaches and members of the media, states an HHSAA release.
The formal induction into the HHSAA Hall of Honor will take place at a June 9 Hall of Honor awards banquet at the Sheraton Waikiki.
Selection criteria is based primarily on athletic achievement with character, academic record and community service taken into consideration.
Originally known as the Nissan Hall of Honor, the HHSAA Hall of Honor is celebrating its 31st year.
