LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i Surfrider invites current members and the general public to its annual membership meeting and election of officers today. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at Cafe Coco in Wailua.
“We will give a brief overview of this past year’s accomplishments in legislation, water quality testing, a new pesticide brochure, educational outreach and beach clean-ups,” Dr. Robert Zelkovsky of Kaua‘i Surfrider wrote in a news release. “Also, look forward to the upcoming year that should be quite challenging with the predicted arrival of Japan tsunami debris, which we are in charge of monitoring and disposal. If you would like to be more involved, it is also a time for election of Executive Committee officers and members and your help is needed.”
Surfrider is a world-wide environmental organization based upon CARE — conservation, activism, research and education — and has been on Kaua‘i for seven years. It has been active in legislation, beach clean-ups, water quality testing and removing derelict fishing nets, according to the release.
