LIHU‘E — Officials have identified the California man who drowned in waters off Kaua‘i as Cristian Lung of Castro Valley.

Firefighters responded Thursday to a call about a swimmer in distress in waters near the Plantation Hale Hotel in Kapa‘a.
Bystanders were attempting to help the man when firefighters arrived. Firefighters helped bring his unresponsive body to shore and began performing CPR.
Medics transported the man to Wilcox Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Officials say the man is the 11th person to drown in Kaua‘i waters this year.
