LIHU’E — Kaua‘i Police Chief Darryl Perry recognized three officers for outstanding service to the community with drug arrests involving methamphetamine. The three officers are all currently stationed at the Waimea substation, which patrols the district from Kekaha to Koloa.
LIHU’E — Kaua‘i Police Chief Darryl Perry recognized three officers for outstanding service to the community with drug arrests involving methamphetamine.
The three officers are all currently stationed at the Waimea substation, which patrols the district from Kekaha to Koloa. They were honored at the Kaua‘i Police Commission meeting March 22 at the Pi‘ikoi Building in Lihu‘e.
“These officers exercised diligence in what were seemingly routine calls,” Assistant Chief Ale Quibilan said. “And their attention to detail resulted in firearms and a substantial amount of illegal narcotics being taken off our streets.”
Officers George Laccone and Whitman McCallum were recognized for their vigilance when responding to a report of an assault in progress.
Upon arriving to the scene, the officers stopped a vehicle attempting to flee the area and identified the driver as the suspect involved in the alleged assault. The officers determined that the male subject had committed the offenses of abuse of family or household member and third-degree assault.
Upon discovering contraband in the vehicle, further investigation of the resulted in the seizure of weapons, drug paraphernalia, methamphetamine and a substantial amount of cash.
This is officer Laccone’s second recognition in two months. He was awarded the Officer of the Month recognition in February for his effort on a separate case.
Officer Anthony Abalos received a commendation for his work during a routine traffic stop. He observed marijuana in a vehicle and the driver was subsequently arrested and the vehicle was seized.
A more thorough search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of a firearm, ammunition, drug paraphernalia, and methamphetamine. This resulted in additional felony charges for the offender.
