LIHU‘E — An accident Monday afternoon sent three people to the hospital and caused a temporary traffic diversion in Nawiliwili, but no one was seriously hurt according to county officials.
“A sedan was traveling east on Nawiliwili Road near the Niumalu Road junction at around 12:30 p.m. … when it veered off the roadway onto the shoulder and struck a posted sign, a portion of the eastbound lane guardrail, and a nearby utility pole,” county spokeswoman Sarah Blane said.
The 52-year-old female driver, a Kalaheo resident, along with her backseat passengers, an 80-year-old female and an 84-year-old male, also from Kalaheo, were transported via ambulance to Wilcox Memorial Hospital in Lihu‘e, according to Blane.
They sustained minor injuries and were later released, she said.
“Traffic in the area was diverted for roughly 20 minutes as a result of the collision,” Blane said. “The incident remains under police investigation.”
