NAWILIWILI — Following the success of Po‘ipu’s Papalani Gelato, the store’s owner opened a second location Wednesday at Anchor Cove Shopping Annex.
“Last week, there was nothing in here,” said Stacy Gorden, the Nawiliwili store’s manager. “We just opened the doors. There are still things which need to be worked on, but the important thing is we’re open.”
Gorden said a false window with product displays is on tap for the new shop, and a new sign is coming.
Located at 3366 Wa‘apa Road, Suite 500, the Papalani Gelato shop is open from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., seven days a week, Gorden said.
“We have all of the flavors of gelato as the original Po‘ipu Shopping Village store,” Gorden said. “Additionally, we have baked goods from Passion Bakery in Kapa‘a. Everything has at least one item from Hawai‘i in it.”
Joining the assorted flavors of gelato and baked goods, the store also offers Papalani Breezes, coffee, espresso and a variety of hot beverages, including assorted flavors of tea, Chai Latte, Belgian Hot Chocolate and Fit Freezes.
“I love gelato,” said a customer who was checking out the new location close to the ABC Store. “I was wondering when they were going to open in Lihu‘e. And, with the baked goods and coffee, I might just have to find a new route to work.”
Gorden said Papalani Gelato is looking at April 20 as the grand opening for the Anchor Cove shop. Customers are invited to participate in the “Pick A New Gelato Flavor” campaign and an opportunity to earn a $100 gift certificate.
Papalani Gelato Franchising Co. is a family-owned and operated franchisor of handmade Hawaiian style gelato, coffee and chocolate shops, opening in 2008 at Po‘ipu Shopping Village by Marck and Lauren Shipley, states its website.
The Anchor Cove branch becomes its second branch after the Shipleys received numerous requests for more locations.
Papalani Gelato products and flavors are also available at Art Cafe Hemingway, Caffe Coco, Josselin’s Tapas Bar & Grill, Merriman’s, Oasis on the Beach, Kaua‘i Pasta in Lihu‘e, and the Tortilla Republic.
Grocery stores, fruit stands and health food shops carrying the Papalani Gelato products include the Harvest Market, Living Foods Market and Papaya’s Natural Foods and Cafe.
Papalani Gelato is available by the scoop at Pizzetta in Koloa and at the Kaua‘i Miniature Golf in Kilauea.
