KAPA‘A — The Kapa‘a High School Warriors junior varsity baseball team hosted the Waimea High School Menehune Friday afternoon. The game, which had been previously scheduled for Thursday, was pushed back due to rain and finished in a Menehune 10-3 romping of the Warriors.
Waimea didn’t waste any time, scoring four runs in the first three innings, and never stopped.
Waimea’s Kailen Pablo-Otoman, Devan Vidinha-Lazaro and Jordan Baptista each scored two runs in the game. Vidinha-Lazaro finished 2 for 3.
The Warriors struggled to earn hits on the day, and the exception was Matthew Schmidt, who finished 2 for 4, and Shawn Rabaino, who was 1 for 3 and played excellent defense for Kapa‘a.
Kapa‘a did open the door a bit in the bottom of the seventh, pushing two runs across the plate. But it was too little too late as Waimea already extended its lead to 10-1.
The win was Waimea’s first on the season and improves them to 1-1. The Menehune junior varsity team will be back in action on April 18 against the Kaua‘i High School Red Raiders at Vidinha Stadium.
Kapa‘a is now 0-1-1 and will be in action April 11 against the Red Raiders at Vidinha Stadium.
Varsity baseball will start up again on Saturday with the undefeated Menehune (6-0) hosting the Red Raiders (0-6) in a doubleheader at Hanapepe Stadium. The Warriors varsity club (3-3) will travel to Vidinha Stadium to take on the Red Raiders on April 10.
