Kudos to the Royal Order of Kamehameha on another great Prince Kuhio commemorative service Saturday! Warren Perry said he’s been doing it with Ron Iida (great job with the la‘amea tree!) for at least 32 years. Ray Duarte has been doing the sound at the event for just as long.
Warren and Tom Shigemoto of A&B have a long-standing tradition of poking fun at each other, and Tom said he likes doing the Prince Kuhio service because it’s one of the few places where he is considered “a dignitary.”
Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr., Gov. Neil Abercrombie’s (kudos on the new HSTA contract!) Kaua‘i liaison Wanda Shibata was able to make both the March for Babies and the Kuhio service, where Ka‘eo Bradford and Sean Texeira did a masterful job of the special oli Ka‘eo composed for the event.
Mike Teruya is lamenting the lack of hula ho‘okupu from the different groups, but he was kept busy by all these people interested in photographing rare Kaua‘i birds.
Kudos to Stella Burgess and Pomai Cano of the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort and Spa for continuing the protocol Sunday.
