LIHU‘E — Kaulupono and Team Lihu‘e split its series Saturday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center during the county’s Girls Division 2 basketball games.
Sierra Neves of Team Lihu‘e tied Taegan Keep of Kaulupono 1, both girls netting 14 points, but Kealani Neves added six points and Savannah Neves dropped five points to pull Team Lihu‘e Black to a 27-23 edge over Kaulupono 1.
In the effort, Keep got help from Monique Lorenzo who added five points.
Rebounding from the opening loss, Kaulupono 2 got a game-high 22 points from low post Jasmine Santella in its 31-9 win over Team Lihu‘e Red who was led by Tiana Manera with four points and Roycie Faye with three points.
Following Santella’s lead, Kaulupono guards T.J. Ramos and Kiarra Palacio each added four points.
The Kamikaze got solid play in its 35-22 win over the Kaua‘i Ballers as Lila Hearn topped the scorebooks with 12 points followed by Kalia Shimabukuro and Sandrea Chung adding six points each.
Paea Tafea topped the Kaua‘i Ballers’ scoring with nine points followed by Tamare Daligcon-Pomaikai adding five points.
Jaliyah Casem and Keani Tolenoa led Hanakila to a 30-9 showing over the Seacats in the day’s finale, the Hanakila girls ending with eight points apiece. Joy Milbrand helped the win with six points.
Risa Whetsel topped the Seacats’ scoring with six points followed by Summer Mead adding three points.
The county youth basketball is nearing its end, Monday night being make-up games from a February Rain Day for the Boys Division 3 and a Division 2 girls game.
The Hanapepe Sinister will open against Lepo Ula in the 6 p.m. tipoff followed by the Kaua‘i Ballers 2 going up against Team Lihu‘e Black at 7 p.m. The Kaulupono 1 will match up against Kaulupono 2 in the 8 p.m. finale.
