PUHI — Kaua‘i High School and Island School split their tennis series during the matches played Wednesday and Thursday at Kaua‘i Community College.
The Island School girls edged out Kaua‘i, 3-2 in the girls courts while the Kaua‘i boys were victorious, 4-1 on the boys field.
Manix Wolfman was the sole Voyager to post a victory on the boys court, taking the Boys Second Singles, 6-3, 6-3 over Francis Mathew Perez.
On the doubles courts, Clinton Sibolboro teamed with Mitchell Evans in the Boys Third Doubles, taking that match by default.
Randy Iloreta teamed with Regie Negrillo to take the Boys Second Doubles, 6-0, 6-3 over the Island School duo of Quentin Allen and Zeb Wichert.
William Jordan Balbin teamed with Reggie Mones on the Boys First Doubles court to get past the Voyager team of Sam Goldberg and Phillip Zaviryukha, 6-0, 6-1.
Jerik Centeno had his hands full on the Boys First Singles court against Davis Huffman, the match being called late Wednesday due to darkness and resuming on Thursday afternoon.
Centeno perserved on the court, 5-7, 7-6 (4), finishing the job 6-1, Thursday over Huffman.
Similarly on the girls arena, the Voyager team of Ashley Larkin and Whitney Summerhays was s 6-2, 6-3 winner over the Red Raider duo of Robyn Leong and Amber Suguitan, Thursday on the Girls Third Doubles court.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Island School girls took all of the doubles matches when the Girls First Doubles pair of Alex Obert and Katy Davidson defeated the Kaua‘i team of Kari Noe and Dyann Layaoen, 6-2, 6-3.
Voyagers Madison Moore and Joy Claypoole downed the Kaua‘i pair of Tori Pagador and Maricar Bersamira, 6-1, 6-2 on the Girls Second Doubles court.
Kaua‘i’s Tarryn Orial defeated April Oo on the Girls First Singles court, 6-2, 6-3, but it took three sets for Noelani Murray of Kaua‘i to get past Michaela Fitzgerald of Island School on the Girls Second Singles court, 5-7, 6-3, 7-5.
The matches, formerly scheduled for Saturday, had to be re-scheduled due to Kaua‘i High School losing the use of the Kaua‘i Lagoons courts due to resurfacing.
By mutual agreement, both coaches agreed to the Wednesday match, the series continuing into Thursday in the event matches could not be finished on the first day.
No scores were available from the March 16 tennis matches when Kapa‘a hosted Waimea at the Kapa‘a High School campus.
Kristen Fuchigami, the Kaua‘i coach, said their match scheduled for April 6 against Kapa‘a will be relocated to the Kiahuna Tennis Club.
Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation tennis continues on March 30 when Kaua‘i travels to meet Waimea at the Hanapepe tennis courts starting at 10 a.m.
Island School will host Kapa‘a at the Kaua‘i CC courts starting at noon.
