LIHU‘E — Public schools are out this week for spring break and the Kaua‘i Museum, in collaboration with the Kaua‘i Children’s Author’s Guild and its ongoing Author Series, will be offering keiki story-telling Thursday from 12:30 to 3 p.m.
Six of Kaua‘i’s most popular local children’s book authors will be on hand to read to the keiki with book signings to follow, states a release from the Kaua‘i Museum.
Featured books include “Knuckles, The Hound of Hanalei” by Susan Dierker, the “Eye of the Lion” by Mark Jeffers, “King of the Beach” by Mark Huff, who will also have “The Sheltering Place.”
Wendy Lewis will present “Sabrina,” and “Benny the Beetle” will be offered by Carol Peacock-Williams.
Monika Mira will have “Who Lives in the Sea?” Keiki, older children and even parents can learn to identify more than 80 different types of Hawaiian reef fish from “The Complete Hawaiian Reef Fish Coloring Book.”
“This is just in time for spring break,” said Melisa Paterson, the museum’s public relations officer. “In addition to the keiki story-telling, this is the last week for parents to bring their kids by to see the Intermediate students artwork in the Student Art Festival in the main Senda Gallery.”
Recognizing the lack of a bookstore in the Lihu‘e area, the Kaua‘i Museum recently started expanding on its book offerings, concentrating on Hawaiiana titles, within the Edith King Wilcox gift shop to accommodate shoppers looking for new books.
The museum’s on-going Author Series was held Monday with Agnes Marti-Kini being available to talk about her “Anahola” book as well as sign copies for people during her appearance.
“Agness Marti-Kini will be back to talk story next Monday starting at 10:30 a.m.,” said Jane Gray, the museum’s director.
The Kaua‘i Museum is at 4428 Rice Street in Lihu‘e, and is open from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m.
