LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation will open its boys volleyball season Tuesday when Kaua‘i High School hosts Waimea at the Kaua‘i High School gym.
The junior varsity teams square off starting at 5 p.m. and the varsity teams start no earlier than 6:30 p.m., said Kaua‘i High School coach Merrill Carvalho.
Kaua‘i High School had its boys JV team selling Portuguese sausage in the Walmart parking lot, the boys demonstrating their enthusiasm at the upcoming season.
While Kaua‘i hosts Waimea, Kapa‘a High School will host Island School at the Bernice Hundley Gym on the grounds of the Kapa‘a campus with the JV teams starting at 5 p.m. and the varsity game starting no earlier than 6:30 p.m.
KIF boys volleyball games will be played on Tuesdays and Fridays through the playoffs scheduled for May 1.
The exception to the Tuesday and Friday games is in April when the KIF boys volleyball game will play on April 27 due to the KIF Track Championships which will be held on April 26 at Vidinha Stadium.
Scoring for the KIF boys volleyball is done with a Round 1 winner, a Round 2 winner yielding an overall KIF championship team which will advance to the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association state championship tournament scheduled for May 9 to 11 on O‘ahu.
Following the Tuesday opener at Kaua‘i and Kapa‘a, games move to Kapa‘a High School on Friday when the Warriors host Kaua‘i High School. Island School will host Waimea at its Puhi campus gym when the JV games start at 5 p.m. and the varsity games starting no earlier than 6:30 p.m.
