KALAHEO — One Team Lihu‘e squad won and one lost as the Lihu‘e Black took off for a 38-19 win over Lihu‘e Red Tuesday during the county’s Division 2 Girls basketball games at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Following the opener between the two Team Lihu‘e squads, Kaulupono stayed in control of the ball to win both its matches, Kaulupono 2 taking a 34-28 edge over Hanakila, and Kaulupono 1 staying ahead of the Kaua‘i Ballers, 46-37.
Savannah Neves set the pace for Lihu‘e Black, reaching a game-high 14 points in the win and getting help from Ashley Lucas, who dropped eight points.
Marissa Layosa and Tiana Manera led the Lihu‘e Red effort with eight and seven points, respectively.
Kaulupono 1 low post Jasmine Santella topped the win over Hanakila, putting away a game-high 19 points. Guard Kiarra Palacio, in addition to forcing turnovers and capitalizing, ended with nine points.
Jaliyah Casem topped the Hanakila girls’ scoring with 11 points followed by Angelica Cudiamat adding 10 points.
In the nightcap, Monique Lorenzo led the Kaulupono 1 win with 20 points followed by low post Taegan Keep adding 17 points.
Mele Tafea and Kanoe Manupule topped the Kaua‘i Ballers’ scoring with eight points apiece.
The county youth basketball next hosts six games Saturday at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center starting at 9 a.m.
The Kaua‘i Ballers 1 open against Lihu‘e Red in one of two Boys Division 3 games at 9 a.m. followed by Hanakila boys hosting Lihu‘e Black in the 10 a.m. tipoff.
The Kaua‘i Ballers wahine take on Hanakila girls in the 11 a.m. match followed by the Seacats going up against Lihu‘e Red girls at noon. The Kamikaze close the day against Lihu‘e Black girls starting at 1 p.m.
