LIHU‘E — After suffering a 28-2 opening day loss to Waimea, the Kaua‘i High School softball team rebounded for a resounding sweep of the Kapa‘a Warriors, 21-5, 18-7 during the Saturday doubleheader at Kapa‘a High School softball facility.
Kailee Nii had a homerun, a double and two singles with four RBIs to lead the Red Raider bats in game one.
Ka‘a La‘amea picked up the two wins on the hill, getting the nod for the 21-5 opener and the 18-7 nightcap, while Kapa‘a shared the losses between Aliyah Cummings in the opener and Kalia Kaui taking the loss in the nightcap.
Cummings also marked one of the hits in game one, getting an RBI and scoring once.
La‘amea opened the day with five runs allowed on six hits while giving up six walks. With the break between the games shortened by the 10-run rule, La‘amea took the mound for the second outing with seven runs allowed on seven hits with two strikeouts and giving up five walks.
La‘amea also helped herself in the box in game two, going 4 for 5 with a double, two singles and scoring three times. She finished game one 2 for 5, including two singles with two RBI and scored twice.
Cummings gave up Kaua‘i’s 21 runs on 18 hits with no walks or strikeouts while Kaui, while allowed 18 runs on 13 hits, whiffed five Raider batters and gave up seven walks and hit six batters.
Nii, suffering the loss to Waimea on the hill Wednesday, came back to lead the Kaua‘i lumber against Kapa‘a. She finished with a homerun in the first inning and followed with a double in the fourth inning and two singles in the sixth inning while crossing the plate three times in the win.
Kyana Hirokane also helped herself at the plate, finishing the day with seven RBIs, three in game one and four in game two. She went 4 for 5 in game one, with four singles and scored three times while finishing 3 for 5 in game two with a pair of doubles and a single.
Karlyee Malapit was held to just a triple in game two, and finished the first game by driving in a run and scoring three times.
Kiana Pagador finished 2 for 5 in both games one and two, getting an RBI in game one on two singles while scoring three times. She continued in game two with a triple and a single with three RBIs and scored three times.
Other Raider hitters included Tammie Yoshimori, finishing 3 for 5 in game one with two doubles, a single and three RBIs while scoring three times.
Janessa Maghanoy finished game two with three singles while scoring three times.
Kapa‘a’s Anuhea Huddy had a hot bat for the Warriors, getting a single, scoring once and driving in a run in game one before finishing with a triple and a double in game two while scoring once.
Analeigha Carvalho-Toloai finished with an RBI on a double in game one
before coming up with two singles and scoring once in game two.
Kailana Kaimina‘auao marked a single and scored once in game one before doubling in game two and scoring once.
Other Warriors who performed well included Kelsey Gorospe-Keli‘ipuleole singling, Shayanna Rodero-Workman singling and Jordan Lopez driving in a run in game two.
Kaui singled and scored once in game two and Destiny Navalta finished with a single.
Kapa‘a will try its luck against Waimea, a 28-2 winner during its opener against Kaua‘i, when it travels to the Waimea Canyon Park for a single match Wednesday starting at 5:30 p.m.
