Why are there a lot of uninsured vehicles on Kaua‘i? And why the owners are not being arrested on the spot?
On Friday morning, at approximately 9 a.m. at the intersection of Kaumuali‘i Highway with Waioli and ‘Ele‘ele roads, there was an accident.
To make a long story short, the uninsured vehicle traveling west on Kaumuali‘i Highway sped through a red light and plowed into a vehicle exiting Waioli Road, dragging the vehicle and himself into a vehicle waiting on ‘Ele‘ele Road to make a left turn onto Kaumuali‘i Highway.
Again, to make a long story short, the uninsured driver was driven to Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital and later released. He was seen by his uncle walking home to ‘Ele’ele on Kaumuali‘i Highway.
Both ladies who got hit by this uninsured person have spouses who know the uninsured person.
Shouldn’t the uninsured person be drug-tested or given a sobriety test on the spot?
One of those ladies was my wife and I am very angry!

Are we the land of the free?
I recently visited Cuba and stayed in a private home with a Cuban family.
The so-called dictatorial communist government not only allows these vacation rentals, but encourages them so its citizens can share in bounty of hard currency that tourism brings.
Meanwhile, our government says we cant go there and spend any money.
I was amazed and somewhat saddened that, at least in this respect, their country has more economic freedom than right here on Kaua‘i.
So much for the land of the free.

Magic is happening at the WIT’s End
I would just like to bring to the attention of our citizens something rather special going on for the next two weekends — and it’s not the next big surf.
The play that WIT is presenting at its little theater in Coconut MarketPlace, “The Sisters Rosensweig,” shouldn’t be missed: the script, the acting, the directing are all superb, and of a standard comparable to any off-Broadway production.
This was the opinion of several visitors who saw the show and spoke to me about it. I thought it only fair to spread the word to our residents: our island may be off-off Broadway, but all that means is that you can still enjoy theater in slippers, shorts and a baseball cap.

Stop No-GMO graffiti
The parade in support of No GMO on Kaua‘i was a responsible demonstration of people expressing their positions and views.
And this was held in spite of the rain. Nice work!
What distresses me, however, is the fact that certain members of the Kaua‘i County Council are very much associated with this movement.
These members take an oath of office to serve the general welfare of the citizens of our county. I will avoid mentioning their names which would only serve to enhance their ego.
But county officers; isn’t it time to continue the parades and for you to use your influence to stop graffiti. Enough spraying your signs on our roads. County money is being spent to cover your graffiti.
County officialdom, you can’t have it both ways. Coddle your No GMO graffiti-spraying masses and convince them that their actions, as well as yours, are those of a rebellious adolescent.

The amazing Ashlee at Walmart electronics is thoughtful, patient and very helpful, especially to this senior who was attempting to buy an inexpensive cell phone recently.
It would be terrific if Ashlee could splice her positive personality, so all the sales associates and representatives on Kaua‘i could have her positive attitude.
