KALAHEO — Team Central walked off with two wins over the Kaua‘i Ballers, and Reymund Mendoza fired off a game-high 17 points, but the Hanapepe Sinister came up short 48-28 against Hanakila Thursday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Mendoza, in his high-point performance, fired off a three-ball in the fifth period, but the Hanapepe Sinister just could not close the gap created by the Hanakila team.
Ardino Ned added six points, Tai Ofisa fired off a second period trey and a pair from Kai Perreira-Alquiza rounded out the effort.
Hanakila, getting help from Phil Baclayon, the Kapa‘a High School head coach, opened strong and stayed ahead throughout the night, led by Carson Schmick ending with 16 points and Triston Hawelu firing off nine of his game-total 11 points in the first period. Lawrence Abela contributed seven first-half points. Lexton Camat and Rafael Roslin each added four points with Bernie Calvan, Ethan Ilic and Daniel Yabes each finishing with pairs.
Jayden Gandia and Bryce Johnson-Cormack each fired off 11 points to lead Team Central Black to a 54-40 win over the Kaua‘i Ballers 1 after Central Black came back from a second period deficit.
Joseph Cumlat added nine points in the win.
Teile Fonua and Morris Unutoa led the Kaua‘i Ballers 1 scoring with 10 points apiece with Chysen Barretto adding nine points.
Team Central continued its winning streak in the nightcap when Michael Dasalla finished with a game-high 18 points to lead Team Central Silver to a 47-21 win over the Kaua‘i Ballers 2.
Aaron Renaud added eight points in the Team Central Silver win.
Limuel Julian topped the Kaua‘i Ballers 2 scoring on nine points followed by Floyd Fitzgerald adding six points.
Following a full schedule of six games Saturday, the county’s Division 3 boys basketball teams are on the floor at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center Monday starting at 6 p.m.
The Hanapepe Sinister open against Westside Basketball in the 6 p.m. tipoff followed by Team Lihu‘e Red going up against Team Central Silver at 7 p.m., and Team Lihu‘e Black closing against Team Central Black in the 8 p.m. nightcap.
