LIHU‘E — Robert Burke of Jumpshot Films wrapped up nearly three weeks of filming for a full-length independent feature film on Kaua‘i Friday.
Burke, producer for “Endeavor,” by Jumpshot Films based in Seattle, said with the completion of the Kaua‘i filming, the movie is more than 60 percent complete.
“The film is about two-thirds done,” said Burke, who was with actor Tristan Erwin, the film’s lead. “We’ve got some location shooting to do in Seattle, and the shooting part of the film will be done.”
Burke said “Endeavor” is a story of a young Seattle boy, portrayed by Erwin, who grew up through rough upbringing and has a dream to get away and sail to Kaua‘i.
His tale speaks to a young woman, portrayed by Alexa McConville, and the film unfolds around the journey to Kaua‘i and the relationship between the two young people.
“It has elements of adventure, drama and relationships,” Burke said. “It should be released in about a year.”
He said working on Kaua‘i for nearly three weeks has been very special.
“The Kaua‘i Film Commission office has been very helpful, and what is amazing is the amount of cooperation they afforded our small crew,” Burke said. “They did not treat us like we were just a small film. It has been very special.”
Burke said during the filming, the crew got to render Kaua‘i as Kaua‘i with its places of beauty and the people.
“The people here are just incredible,” Burke said. “They have been very nice and accommodated us at every location.”
Burke, a graduate of the University of Washington, said he started creating films when he was 12 years old, having one feature film, “Max Rules,” under his belt along with about five short films and a documentary.
Kaua‘i Film Commissioner Art Umezu said at 12 years old, Burke was the youngest filmmaker to be accepted at the Seattle International Film Festival — “Max Rules” premiered when he was 19 years old in 2004.
Erwin was nominated as the best new actor at The Heart of England International Film Festival and Scansea International Film Festival in Australia, last year, Umezu said.
Burke said the female lead is McConville’s first venture into films after being involved in dance and other performances.
