PO‘IPU — The Shops at Kukui‘ula added a special feature to its weekly Wednesday Kaua‘i Culinary Market in Po‘ipu.
Joining the entertainment lineup, members of the Koloa School ‘Ukulele Band and the kindergarten classes provided shoppers a change of pace from the normal entertainment presentations.
“We’re also presenting the school with a check for $1,758,” said Stacie Chiba Miguel, The Shops at Kukui‘ula assistant real estate manager. “The amount represents sales from the Koloa Elementary School’s annual Holiday Gift Bag fundraiser, which was almost sold out last year.”
Under the Holiday Gift Bag program, Chiba-Miguel said The Shops at Kukui‘ula received paper bags and turned them over to the school.
The students then decorated them with holiday themes.
Once decorated, the bags were returned to the shopping complex where it was distributed to select outlets for sale for a minimum donation of a dollar.
“The continuous support we receive from The Shops at Kukui‘ula is overwhelming,” said Leila Kobayashi, the Koloa School Student Service coordinator. “Without our partnership with The Shops at Kukui‘ula, we would not be able to fund some of the educational projects we have done at Koloa Elementary School.”
Adding to the celebration, the Koloa School ‘Ukulele Band was joined by the kindergarten classes in presenting several numbers for the enjoyment of the shoppers.
The presentation also highlighted the opening of a Koloa Elementary School art exhibit in The Shops at Kukui‘ula’s North Gallery, Chiba-Miguel said.
The showcase, featuring some fundraising items for sale to benefit the school and its art projects, was open from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The showcase will also be open for public viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
“We’re proud to showcase these budding artists and support the education of our community,” said Helaine Perel, the Shops at Kukui‘ula real estate manager.
