LIHU‘E — Hawai‘i Junior Golf Day is coming to the Makai Golf Course in Princeville and Puakea Golf Course in Lihu‘e Saturday, which will provide junior golfers of any age an introductory golf experience at no cost.
The clinic will be from 9 to 11 a.m. and will have members of the Professional Golfers’ Association teach the golfers about various aspects of the game.
“We are going to have five PGA professionals at our event,” said Doug Sutter, the sales and marketing manager for the Makai Golf Course. “We are going to be out there educating — not just about hitting a golf ball — but also about etiquette, honesty and the values of the game.”
To go along with the professional instruction, there will also be a SNAG golf station set up.
SNAG is a company that focuses on entry level golf and the development of young players.
“It is a way of making golf really fun,” Sutter said. “The clubs are plastic, the balls are softer and its a great way to get the younger kids involved.”
Junior Golf Day will also be at various courses throughout the state on O‘ahu, Maui and the Big Island. For more information or to register, visit www.HSJGA.org.
Attendees can also register at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Puakea or the Makai Golf courses, and the first 40 golfers to register online for each site will receive a free tee gift.
“It is a great way to introduce golf,” said Glenn Tamagawa of Puakea. “Whether you have never played before or are looking for further instruction.”
