Base county positions on experience
I do not believe that I have ever met Janine Rapozo and I am certainly no fan of the mayor.
However, as a long-time county employee, she should not be disqualified from the position of personnel director just because her husband was the campaign manager for the mayor. She should be judged on her experience and qualifications alone.
Judging women based on the activities of their mates went out of style a long time ago. And, to do so is inherently sexist!

Not a dope
Prohibition doesn’t work, why keep the sales from marijuana in the hands of organized crime?
I personally do not smoke cigarettes or marijuana but highly support the decimalization of the herb.
They say, “Why do you think they call it dope?”
Because we are not smart enough to legalize it and use the tax monies to bail us out of the financial mess our country is in. They call it dope not because the people who use it are dopes but because the people who want it to remain illegal are dopes.

Google is watching you
Have you Googled your address lately? Well, to my surprise, they show everything.
I was very upset when I saw not only my house but my garage was opened and my car was exposed with my license plate, also everything we have in garage. If you try to call them they will not help you, you have to go online to correct it. The person who answered phone was very rude. I did go online and I was able to get even my house blurred. A few weeks ago I noticed an airplane flying back and forth called our Kaua‘i Air Tour Line and they found out it was Google but Google did not let any one know there were flying on Kaua‘i.
Then I went online to search my name out, there is so much out there, so much personal information, at least with most of the websites I was able to contact someone and they were helpful as far as getting my information deleted on website, one of the big problems is public records.
Our information is being accessed through that. How can we get our records closed to these websites? We need privacy more then ever and I know this practice has be going on for awhile.
I wish that instead of us having to contact to take information off that they would have to ask us for permission to have information.

Oil should not be wasted on NASCAR
The fossil fuel industry is in full promotion mode this weekend with their premiere event, the Daytona 500. Race car drivers will burn absurd amounts of fuel to see which racer is the fastest at driving in a circle. Hooray!
The fuel that powers the cars is the same oil-based resource that fuels most of the electric generating plants that provide power for the rest of us just trying to maintain our day to day lives.
When you take the time to grasp how long it took the planet to generate oil from the remains of dinosaurs over the last few million years, most aware and intelligent people become overwhelmed with anger at the ongoing frivolous waste of such a precious resource.
Oil is basically condensed carbon, the most valuable resource ever discovered by humanity, and it’s just being burned up like economic crack for the benefit of a tiny handful of short-sighted greed-driven fools.
The impact on the planetary climate from perpetually burning this powerful energy is massive and will lead to even more environmental changes.
We’ve already passed the point of turning back when it comes to the impact of greenhouse gasses so buckle your seatbelts and hang on for the wild ride to come.
And if you don’t believe what I’m saying, let me be clear, I don’t care what ignorant people think. To the best of my knowledge, there are no plans to save the weak-minded when the time comes.
No offense.

What kind of coward are you?
On Friday, Feb. 22, I opened my paper to read about the mugging of an elderly woman at Sun Village, a senior’s complex (“Woman breaks hip while mugged at senior housing center”).
The attacker knocked the lady to the ground, breaking her hip and causing other injuries, all of this just to steal a purse.
It is very difficult for the elderly to fully recover from such an injury. I hope the victim recovers from her injuries. Lorin Wade was nominated for Kaua‘i’s Outstanding Older Americans. Is this any way to treat our seniors?
I have questions for her attacker: What kind of bully or should I say coward does it take to do this to an elderly woman? Didn’t your mother teach to respect your elders? I hope your mother finds out what you did, shame on you. You need to turn yourself in.
