LIHU‘E — The Great Gatsby-Speakeasy Costume Party whisked about 150 people back in time to the roaring ’20s.
The costume party was held Feb. 9 in the Mahiko Lounge in Gaylord’s at Kilohana. Ticket sales benefited Kaua‘i United Way.
With this year’s goal of raising $635,000, the KUW is very close to reaching this year’s goal.
According to KUW Executive Director Scott Giarman, the group should know shortly how much money was raised from the Great Gatsby Party.
The costume party marked the grand opening celebration of the Mahiko Lounge featuring a handcrafted solid teak bar, located in the former living room of the Kilohana Plantation Estate.
Entertainment for the fundraiser included speakeasy piano entertainment in the Mahiko Lounge with Ivo Monroe Miller and singer Nina Luzzi, alternating with retro-electro ’20s and ’30s music from Swing Kats DJ in the courtyard.
The Wine Garden in Puhi hosted a cigar lounge and Grande’s Gems at Kilohana Shops awarded $600 in prizes during a costume contest.
There was also a complimentary photo booth from Blinkz Photo Booth and a display of Kaua‘i Classic Cars.
Food stations located throughout the party, along with waiters balancing trays of food, allowed for mingling as guests received champagne upon arrival.
