Air One confirms a female slipped out to sea this afternoon at Hanakapi‘ai Beach on the Na Pali Coast.
Rescue teams were dispatched from Ke‘e Beach as part of the rescue efforts.
Scanner chatter said witnesses last saw the woman near the mouth of the river before pulled out into the ocean.
Rescuers on scene include the Coast Guard, along with Air 1 with Rescue 3, Engine 1 and lifeguards on Jet Ski.
The team was called in earlier to assist 20 hikers, according to county officials, but rescue officials talking over the scanner are reporting 54 hikers are stranded in the area.
The woman was one of the hikers who were stranded on the far side of the stream while heading back to the Ke‘e Beach trailhead this afternoon.
The hikers were having difficulty crossing the Hanakapi‘ai Stream from the Kalalau side back to the trailhead.
Rescuers are being dispatched with bags of blankets for the hikers, while trying to decide if the hikers should shelter in place or will be rescued yet tonight.
Hikers were already attempting to cross on their own by the time fire officials arrived on scene.
Officials did report that the stream was swollen due to rainy conditions throughout the day. By 5:15 p.m., there were reports of surf with 6’ to 8’ faces being reported on the scanner.
