LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Society of Artists’ annual Membership Show is going on now and the public is invited to vote for their favorite piece through Friday.
The KSA art show kicked off Jan. 25 and features 65 diverse 2-D and 3-D pieces in various media, including paintings and sculptures.
“This show, because it’s non-juried and there’s no limitations and no theme, tends to have the largest and most colorful pieces,” R. Eve Solomon said. “People feel they can be more experimental and vibrant.”
Viewers are invited to visit KSA’s gallery at Kukui Grove Center and vote for their favorite piece or pieces. The cost is $1 per ballot and individuals are welcome to vote more than once.
First, second and third place People’s Choice Awards will be presented to the winners during a closing reception Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Awards will be announced at 7 p.m. with first-place receiving $150, second $100 and third $75.
The reception is open to the public and will include a performance by Renee Janton on harp.
“It’s a little celebration,” Solomon said, “with light entertainment and pupus.”
So far, Solomon said the ballot box is “almost half full,” but KSA is hoping to receive additional votes before the Friday deadline.
The majority of the artwork submitted in the contest is also available for purchase, but must remain in the gallery until the show ends March 1.
Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and until 8 p.m. on Fridays. For more information contact R. Eve Solomon at 822-1603.
Winners of the 2012 Membership Show were Loya Whitmer for “Wailua Waterfalls,” Reggie DeRoos for “North Shore Taro Pickers” and Leslie Hagen for “Dragon Diva.”
The Kaua‘i Society of Artists is supported in part by the Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and Kukui Grove Center.
