KEKAHA — The 69-year-old bicyclist involved in a Thursday morning traffic collision in Kekaha is still in critical condition.
A County of Kaua‘i press release notes that the bicyclist remained in critical condition as of 10 a.m. Friday. The report came from Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu, where injured man was medevaced in critical condition on Thursday afternoon.
According to the preliminary investigation, the Kekaha man was riding his bicycle on the westbound shoulder of Kaumuali‘i Highway around 7:35 a.m. Thursday when he was struck from behind by a Ford pickup truck near the Akialoa Road junction.
The bicyclist, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, was transported by medics to Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital. He remains in critical condition as of noon Thursday.
The male driver of the truck, age 33 of Koloa, was not injured.
