LIHU‘E — Six candidates for the Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative Board of Directors Election have been confirmed by the nominating committee, according to a KIUC news release.
The election is on March 23.
Jonathan Jay and John “Jack” Benzie submitted petitions containing the signatures of at least 35 members of the cooperative. Benzie was also nominated by the Nominating Committee along with candidate Stewart “Stu” Burley and incumbent directors Carol Bain, Allan A. Smith and Jan TenBruggencate.
The six candidates are running for three seats on the Board of Directors.
A director is one of nine elected representatives of the members of KIUC who collectively constitute the Board of Directors, the release states.
The Board of Directors governs the business of KIUC and sets the strategic direction and policies of the cooperative. The board is not involved in day-to-day operations.
Members should receive election packets in the mail the first week in March. Members will have three ways to vote: by paper ballot, via phone or online.
All members have an opportunity online to opt out of receiving a paper ballot for the 2014 election.
