HONOLULU — Kaua‘i High School girls basketball, seeded No. 2 in the Hawaiian Airlines Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Division II state girls basketball championships, stayed ahead of Kailua for a 51-42 win Wednesday evening at the Kalani High School Gym on O‘ahu.
Kristle Henry, the Red Raider guard, topped the scoring with 30 points, including a pair of treys, nine field goals and finishing 10-for-16 at the charity line. Low post Kawehi Louis-Diamond had one bucket and was five-for-11 at the foul line for seven points, along with Casey Anacleto, another of the Red Raider guards who posted a trey, two buckets and was a perfect two-for-two at the foul line.
Kaua‘i stayed ahead from the onset, ending the first period with a 9-7 bulge and taking a 25-19 lead into the half. The Raiders surged in the third period, notching its highest production of the night with 17 while holding Kailua to 13 points. Kailua saw the fourth quarter as its only frame where it outgunned Kaua‘i 10-9.
Patria Vaimoana topped the Kailua scoring with 13 points with Briana Kassebeer and Kahoa Mikaele each adding seven points.
Kaua‘i advances to the semifinals with a 5 p.m. game at Kalani High School against the winner of the Hawai‘i Baptist and Honoka‘a matchup, which at press time, was still in progress.
