The 28th Annual Waimea High School Invitational Baseball Tournament will have a new name — the Walter H. Souza Invitational Tournament.
The public is invited to the dedication ceremonies, Saturday starting at 2 p.m. at the Hanapepe Stadium where the change will be formally done.
Ahead of the ceremony, the public is invited to watch the pre-season baseball tournament which involves six teams, the three Kaua‘i public high school teams as well as visiting teams from Leilehua High School, Waipahu High School and the Mid-Pacific Institute.
Games will be played at three sites on Thursday and Friday starting at 3:30 p.m. with three games scheduled at Hanapepe Stadium, Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
Thursday games will feature Waipahu playing Kapa‘a at the Ron Martin Field, Leilehua playing Kaua‘i High School at Vidinha Stadium and Mid-Pacific playing Waimea at Hanapepe Stadium. All games start at 3:30 p.m.
Friday games will see Mid Pacific playing Kapa‘a at the Ron Martin field, Waipahu playing Kaua‘i at Vidinha Stadium and Leilehua playing Waimea at Hanapepe Stadium, all games starting at 3:30 p.m.
Saturday schedule will have Mid-Pacific opening against Kaua‘i starting at 9 a.m. at Hanapepe Stadium. Leilehua will play Kapa‘a starting at 11:30 a.m. followed by the ceremony dedicating the tournament to Souza. Waimea closes the day against Waipahu starting at 2:30 p.m. at Hanapepe Stadium.
The Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation baseball season starts with its first game on March 9 when Waimea visits Kaua‘i at Vidinha Stadium for a double-header starting at 10 a.m.
