KE‘E — A woman had to be rescued from the Hanakapia‘ai trail Monday after suffering a possible broken ankle and ribs.
Kaua‘i Police Dispatch reported a call around 2:45 p.m. that responders were trying to move an injury victim from about a half-mile in on the Hanakapia‘ai trail.
The woman was reported to be 56-years-old and could not put pressure on her ankle.
Kaua‘i Fire Department’s Engine 1, and Station 1 responded over the radio that they would meet the rescuers and help carry her to the trail head.
Lifeguard 53 was on the scene and had the victim’s leg splinted.
The patient was cold but resting, and could be carried out on a stretcher, the lifeguard reported.
The patient was stable but not felling well, and wanted the medics to check her condition once they were out of the trail.
The patient was carried to Ke‘e beach at approximately 4 p.m. An ambulance with medics was waiting to transport the victim to Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
The condition of the patient was not know at press time.
