The Kaua‘i High School girls basketball team was named to the No. 2 seed at the Hawaiian Airlines Hawai‘i High School Division II girls basketball state championships which start Tuesday on O‘ahu.
In a late Saturday announcement by the HHSAA, the Kaua‘i girls basketball team, who won the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation championship, draw an opening day bye, facing the winner of the Kailua and Kohala matchup Wednesday at Kalani High School gym.
Top seed for the Division II bracket is Kamehameha Schools-Big Island. Hawai‘i Baptist Academy was named the No. 3 seed and Kalaheo draws the No. 4 seed.
Other teams participating in the Division II bracket include University High, Moloka‘i, Saint Francis, Hanalani, Kailua, Kohala, Honoka‘a and McKinley high schools when the state tournament opens Tuesday at either Kaimuki High School or Kalani High.
The championship game for Division II is scheduled for Friday starting at 5 p.m. at the Neal Blaisdell Center on O‘ahu.
Top seed for Division I is Konawaena with Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama named to the No. 2 seed. Leilehua is the No. 3 and Lahainaluna was named No. 4.
Other schools participating in the Division I bracket include Mililani, Kaiser, ‘Iolani, Kaimuki, Maui, Wai‘anae, Hilo and Roosevelt playing at either McKinley High School, or Radford High School when the tournament opens Tuesday.
