KAUA‘I — Count your blessings. If you are one of our local readers, you live on the most romantic island in the United States.
The readers of Travel + Leisure have ranked Kaua‘i No. 4 on its list of “World’s Most Romantic Islands,” beating out all other U.S. locations.
“It’s the oldest of Hawai‘i’s eight main islands — and arguably the most dramatic, with scenery that ranges from wind-eroded mountains and red-walled canyons to primeval rainforest and photo-ready waterfalls,” writes Laurel Delp of the New York-based travel magazine.
Worldwide, Kaua‘i was topped by Bora-Bora, French Polynesia at No. 1; Capri, Italy at No. 2; and Santorini, Greece at No. 3.
Rounding out U.S. destinations on the list are Maui at No. 7; Vieques, in the unincorporated territory of Puerto Rico, at No. 9; Lana‘i at No. 12; Hawai‘i Island at No. 19; St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands at No. 20; Nantucket, Mass. at No. 26; O‘ahu at No. 30; Kiawah Island, S.C. at No. 31; and Florida Keys, Fla. at No. 33.
