WAIPAHU — The Kaua‘i High School girls soccer team will face No. 4 seed Radford High School at 3 p.m. at the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association, Division II girls soccer state championships.
Kapa‘a High School, seeded No. 2 in Division II at the state championships, will also be in action at 3 p.m., facing Nanakuli, which was a 3-1 winner over Honoka‘a Monday afternoon at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.
In the win, Mapu Ku scored two goals to lead Nanakuli to its edge over the Big Island Interscholastic Federation representative, hitting the first goal at the 24th minute and added to the lead at the 46th minute.
Kelly Ann Greenwell answered for Honoka‘a in the 69th minute before Nanakuli’s Jayna-Ann Santiago sealed the win with two minutes left in the match.
Kaua‘i, playing on another field at the soccer complex, spread its goals for the first half, scoring four nets for a 4-0 lead.
Wailana Gandeza, an upgrade forward from the junior varsity squad, iced the win with a goal at the 45th minute.
Earlier, Alyssa “Malu” Vegas broke into the scorebooks at the 14th minute followed by a flurry of three goals within a five-minute span as Cascade Mayer scored in the 22nd minute to start the scoring run. Caitlyn Cantorna netted a goal a minute later and Kayla Chang capped the run for the 4-0 half.
Should Kaua‘i be successful against Radford, it will advance to face the winner of the Mid-Pacific, top seeded in Division II, and Leilehua match from Thursday’s quarterfinals.
