LIHU‘E – Steven Hunt will be the county’s new Director of Finance, Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr., announced Tuesday.
Hunt will leave his current post as real property review officer and assume his new position on Feb. 1.
“Since he started with the county eight years ago, Steve has done an excellent job in the positions he’s held as real property review officer and chief appraiser,” said Carvalho in a statement. “With his years of public service and wealth of experience in the private sector, I believe that Steve is the right person to assume the lead of the Department of Finance.”
Prior to joining the county, Hunt worked for Bank of Hawai’i as an assistant vice president for private client services.
He also owned a real estate appraisal company, Island Appraisal Co.
“I’m excited about taking on new challenges and welcome the opportunity Mayor Carvalho has extended me,” said Hunt in a press release. “With just a few short weeks before the county’s budget submittal, I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work alongside the rest of the finance and budget team.”
Hunt has a Bachelor’s Degree in marketing from the University of Washington and a Master’s Degree in business administration from the College of William and Mary in Virginia.
Raised on the south shore, he is a product of Koloa Elementary School and Kaua‘i High School. Hunt currently resides in Lihu‘e with his wife Lauren and their two children, Conor and Mason.
