LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Police Department arrested a wanted fugitive during a multi-agency effort conducted on Kaua‘i last week.
Jovi Enrique, 23 ,of Anahola, was arrested Thursday without incident at his father’s home in Anahola. He was booked on charges relating to unauthorized entry and control of a motor vehicle, second degree theft, and driving without a license.
A county news release said that Enrique had eluded police on several occasions, and is a habitual property crime offender. He is being held at the Kaua‘i Community Correctional Center in lieu of $20,000 bail.
Enrique was one of 22 fugitives arrested during a three-day mission led by the U.S. Marshals Hawai‘i Fugitive Task Force. The law enforcement officers from Kaua’i, Hawai‘i County and Maui Police Departments, as well as the Hawai‘i State Sheriff’s Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The Task Force was also here on a mission to capture other wanted fugitives and non-compliant sex offenders.
They worked with the Kaua‘i Office of the Prosecuting Attorney and the Hawai‘i State Sex Offender Task Force to identify and arrest the suspects.
Of the 120 names on the Kaua‘i offender list, 103 sex offenders are compliant and 27 were non-compliant. Of the non-compliant, 17 sex-offenders were brought into compliance by the task force, according to a release by the U.S. Marshals Service.
According to state law, registered sex offenders must keep their registration information, including their contact information, updated and accurate. Failing to do so is a Class C felony, punishable by up to five years imprisonment for each violation.
The Hawai‘i Criminal Justice Data Center, an agency of the state Department of the Attorney General, keeps a public listing of all registered sex offenders in the state. Search for a registered sex offender at www.ehawaii.gov/sexoffender.
