KAPA‘A — One of the island’s most unique and family-friendly events returns Saturday with the same focus and goal it has maintained for the last 10 years — celebrating and strengthening families.
The 10th annual Eastside Family Summit is from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Kapa‘a High School courtyard. Each February, the event provides free lunch, social service information, keiki activities and entertainment for nearly 1,000 people.
“Due to the generosity of the people of Kaua‘i, this awesome family event is successful,” Family Summit volunteer Bridget Arume said in a press release. “This event involves so many wonderful individuals, organizations and businesses that each year it continues to help strengthen families, which blesses our whole community.”
The courtyard between Kapa‘a High School and Kapa‘a Elementary School will be transformed Saturday with more than 20 tents housing over 60 family service information tables, a music and performance stage, a food service area and dozens of family-friendly activities. Dozens of volunteers will be available to offer free information on early education, family resources, Hawaiiana, faith-based and civic issues, health, sports and more.
One exciting new feature this year will be the Kaua‘i Fire Department’s mobile fire safety vehicle, which will provide information on how to prevent and respond to a fire in your home.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call Bridget Arume at Kapa‘a Elementary School at 821-6972 ext. 116 or visit http://www.kauaischools.org/a/family-summit-east-side-kauai.
