Ward K. Peters
Ward Kawaioluokalani Peters passed away on January 13, 2013 in Sacramento, California at the age of 45. Born on June 30, 1967 in Kauai, Hawaii, he was a Machine/production operator for various Dairy companies in Sacramento, California.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Eloise K Peters; father, Spencer K. Peters Sr.; and Lucinda K. Peters.
He is survived by two sisters, Venus K. Corpuz of Kalaheo, Penlois M. (Daryl) Pundkye of Hanamaulu; and one brother Spencer K. (Sherry) Peters Jr. of San Leandro, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service will be held on February 4, 2013 3pm. at Salt Pond, Pavilion 1.
Juan Gerardo
Juan Gerardo of Moreno Valley, California passed away January 18, 2013 at Riverside County Regional Center. Born in Hanamaulu, Kauai, Hawaii on March 26, 1934, he was enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953 and was honorable discharged in 1956.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Gerardo; father, Benito Gerardo; his mother, Apolinaria S. Gerardo; and a brother, James Gerardo.
He is survived by his son, John Gerardo (Los Angeles, California); his brothers, Antonio Gerardo, (Mililani, Hawaii), Bernardo Gerardo, (Hanamaulu, Kauai) and Cayetano Gerardo (Koloa, Kauai); sisters, Dolores S. Yoshida of Marino Valley, California and Encarnacion Guzman of Salinas, California; numerous nephews and nieces and one granddaughter.
Services were held on Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Church of Flowers, Forest Lawn Glendale, California.
Y. Charles Tanigawa
Y. Charles Tanigawa of Lihue passed away on January 12, 2013, at the age of 97. He was born in Kealia and retired from Lihue Sugar Plantation.
He is survived by four children, Dennis, Ellen (Howard) Uyehara, Jeanette Taam, Alvin (Laurel) Tanigawa; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Iris Fukui and Carolyn Sakai; nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Tanigawa family with arrangements.
Satomi Nakasone
Satomi Nakasone passed away on December 31, 2012 at Hale Kupuna at the age of 101. She was born on August 27, 1911 in Koloa, Kauai.
She is survived by her daughters, Jean E. Sato of Kapaa, Kauai, Helen H. Ida of Torrance, CA, and Mae Yuri Ishida of Gardena, CA; brother, Jenichi Shigematsu of Koloa, Kauai; sister-in-law, Yoshiko Shigematsu of Koloa Kauai; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services were held.
Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Avelina U. Bumagat
Avelina U. Bumagat of Lihue went peacefully to the lord at the Provincial Hospital in Laoag City, Philippines on December 8, 2012 at the age of 81. She was born in Lihue, Hawaii on April 28, 1931. She was a homemaker and loved to cook.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Carlina Jiminez; mother, Isabel Fernandez; and step-father, Sylvestre Fernandez.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Felipe R. Bumagat; son and daughters, Rozel (Wayne) Ebinger, Henry (Delia) Bumagat, Delia (Jun) Astrologio, Joannie Bumagat, Marina (Lance) Nojima, Aleli Teresita (Sammy) Cadiz, Ruena Bumagat; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grand child; one brother, Blas (Florida) Robledo; numerous nieces, nephews and relatives.
A gathering in the celebration of her life will be held at Niumalu Pavilion on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 6 p.m.
