Team Lihu‘e picked up two wins and Team Central split its series Saturday during the county’s youth basketball league games at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Team Lihu‘e, with Max Manera in the coaches’ box, opened with a roaring 13-2 opening frame in the Division 1 (boys in the third and fourth grade) matchup against Westside, coached by Dino Pabre.
Micah Agtunong fired off a game-high 11 poings to lead the Team Lihu‘e win, getting help from Ellsworth Kaleiohi, Xaerys Dela Cruz and Toshi Cox, who each contributed six points towards the victory.
Harley Ragasa and Barak Aviguetero topped the Division 1 Westside scoring on four and three points, respectively.
Rafael Corpuz took the reins for the Team Lihu‘e Division 1 girls’ matchup, where Marissa Layosa bucketed a sizzling 20 points in Lihu‘e’s 39-7 showing over Team Central.
Resa Rapozo added eight points and Destiny Melchor finished with four points for Team Lihu‘e.
Tia Fulks, Amalya Sales and Jessica Cezar did the honors for Team Central, each girl netting a pair.
During the second girls’ matchup, T.J. Ramos, the younger sister of Waimea High School senior guard Jullynn Ramos, netted six points to lead Kaulupono, coached by Pedro Saligumba and Bobby Kamakele, to a 26-7 showing over the Westside girls.

Hanakila, a boys Division 1 team from the Hanalei and Kilauea area coached by Dave Simon, made the best of its road trip, getting 10 points from Brandon Murata and six marks from Chanson Inanod-Hawelu in its 30-18 showing over the Supersonics.
Coached by Fernando and Fran Constantino of the former Supersonics, the Westside team based out of Kaumakani saw Mayson Broyles burn the twine for a game-high 16 points in the effort, Aden Ringor adding a pair toward the final.
Kaimani Tecson scored a whopping 24 points to lead Team Central, Division 2 (boys in the fifth and sixth grade), to its 41-30 win over the Hanapepe Bomb Squad, coached by Elton Montemayor. The Bomb Squad got 13 points from Tai Ofisa, and Lacin Montemayor, the quarterback from the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League champion Junior Peewee team, added seven points.
Kyle Bisarra topped the Papalina Division 2 team with seven points and got help from Trey Taba and Isahn Ulanday, who each netted six points towards its 41-10 showing over the Kamikaze. Travis Duran and Micah Matsunaga combined for eight of the team’s 10 points.
The county’s Division 2 boys take the floor for two games Monday night at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center when Hanakila opens against Team Lihu‘e at 6 p.m., followed by Eastside taking on the Kamikaze, starting at 7 p.m.
Tuesday night games return to the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center when the Division 1 boys open with Papalina taking on Kapa‘a starting at 6 p.m. followed by Hanakila matching up against Team Lihu‘e starting at 7 p.m.
