LIHU‘E — A Lihu‘e man was sentenced to a year in jail and probation for failing to comply with sex offender requirements in 5th Circuit Court.
Honorato Olimpo Pardua, 46, of Lihu‘e, was arrested on April 4, 2012, on 11 counts of non-compliance with the state sex offender registry.
Pardua changed his plea to no contest on one count of failing to comply with the sex offender registry on Oct. 4. He has served nearly eight months in jail.
State Deputy Public Defender Stephanie Sato said that Pardua was not attempting to evade authorities or keep his place of residence a secret. He reported to his mandatory annual in-person registration at the police department, but failed to keep up with his mail-in forms for his changes of residence, she said.
County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Lisa Arin said she agreed that Pardua had sporadic compliance, but that it is not acceptable for a sex offender to be in anything less than total compliance. She agreed to the plea deal in part because the defendant has remained compliant since his arrest.
Chief Judge Randal Valenciano sentenced Pardua to a year in jail with credit for time served. He also sentenced him to a five-year probation. He reminded the defendant that he would be in court again with any non-compliance.
Pardua pleaded no contest to third-degree sexual assault on July 20, 1995. He was sentenced to a five-year prison term by Judge George Masuoka on Sept. 21, 1995.
