LIHU‘E — Now here is a good, healthy way to spend a crisp $20 bill and jump start your new year.
On Monday, the Kaua‘i Athletic Club in Lihu‘e kicked off its 2013 Body Transformation Challenge, with the simple goal of inspiring and motivating people toward achieving the healthy, fit body they have always dreamed of.
“So far, there about 30 people that have signed up,” Jane Riley, a KAC trainer and organizer of the challenge, said Jan. 10. “There’s more and more interest building up.”
Although the event has already officially started, it’s not too late to get involved, get in shape and potentially walk away with some great prizes. In fact, those who are interested are encouraged to join at any time during the challenge, which runs from now until April and is open to individuals, couples and teams of three or four.
“It’s a 12-week contest,” Riley said. “By week 12 you’re going to see phenomenal results … it’s not just a body transformation, but a lifestyle transformation.”
Unlike typical “weight loss” contests, this challenge focuses on fat loss, as measured by KAC certified personal fitness trainers, with the winner(s) declared based on the total percentage of fat loss. No scales will be used, as the goal is not to lose weight but rather to become stronger and leaner. Measurements will be taken upon sign up and every four weeks throughout the challenge, which ends April 7.
There is a $20 entry fee, which includes a special contest T-shirt, water bottle and exercise nutrition log to help participants stay on track. KAC is also offering special rates on all training packages for challenge participants.
“I think the guidance is the big thing,” Riley said. “We’re going to have a lot of fun with this. (Participants) can decide to do it in private or they can decide to go public all the way … with before and after pictures.”
For those who are already members at KAC, all you need to do is register at the front desk and get started. And for all you non-members, now is a great time to join, with KAC offering a special 10 percent reduced membership rate, along with a waived $100 initiation fee.
In addition to getting in shape, participants will have a chance at winning some great prizes, including a full one-year membership to KAC, a Kukui Grove Center shopping spree, a weekend getaway at Kaua‘i Beach Resort, KAC logo gear and much more from various island merchants.
