HONOLULU — Island Air is offering its annual student Explorers Program with Orientation Night aat 6:30 p.m., Jan. 17, at Bishop Museum’s Atherton Halau, the airline recently announced.
The program offers interested students 10 weekly hands-on sessions covering aviation careers such as pilot, flight attendant, aircraft mechanic and airport operations.
It also includes visits and lectures from members of the Federal Aviation Administration, Transportation Security Agency and Air Traffic Control.
Island Air holds Explorers Post #2437 from Learning For Life, an affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America — a post previously held by Aloha Airlines.
Students between the ages of 14 and 20 who have an interest in aviation-related careers are encouraged to attend orientation with their parents.
Applications to the program will only be accepted at orientation and only 15 students will be invited to experience the 10-week educational program.
“The Explorers program is a great opportunity for students interested in aviation to develop a path toward their career goals,” said Dior Andrade, Island Air Explorers Committee Chair and Maintenance team member. “As a former member of Aloha Airlines Explorers Program, I am honored to be sharing my experience with our young adult participants.”
