LIHU‘E — The suspect accused of using a baseball bat to smash an ATM machine and several store windows at Kukui Grove Center will be arraigned Tuesday in 5th Circuit Court.
Patricia Lewis, 31, of Lihu‘e, will make an initial appearance to enter a plea. She was indicted Dec. 27 on two counts of first-degree criminal property damage, attempted first-degree criminal property damage, and second-degree property damage.
The case is set before Chief Judge Randal Valenciano. Lewis is being represented by the State Public Defender’s office. The first-degree B-felony charges carry a maximum possible 10-year prison sentence and a $25,000 fine. The second-degree C-felony charge carries a maximum possible five-year prison sentence and a $10,000 fine.
A news release from Kaua‘i Police Department noted that Lewis allegedly used a bat to smash an ATM machine at the American Savings Bank located within the mall. After allegedly smashing a glass door at Longs Drugs, and a glass window at Jamba Juice, Lewis was reportedly heading toward Starbucks when she was subdued by police officers.
According to court records, Lewis was convicted of second-degree theft in 2006 and sentenced to five years probation, with 88 days served in jail.
