HANAPEPE — Faulty pump controls are being blamed for sending more than 200 gallons of sewage up through manholes onto Iona Road in Hanapepe Sunday.
The Department of Public Works says crews were on the scene by 9:15 am and cleaned up most of the spill by 10 am. By the afternoon, crews were still in Hanapepe disinfecting the area. The agency says the Kauai County’s wastewater staff is working on repairs to the system at the nearby Hanapepe sewage pump station.
