Deborah Charlene Corpuz
Deborah Charlene Corpuz of Kapaa, Kauai, Hawaii passed away on December 16, 2012 at her residence in Kapaa at the age of 64. Born on October 17, 1948 in West Virginia, she was a proprietor for “Auntie Debbie’s Kennel Service”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Dixie Hager; and husband, John Corpuz.
She is survived by her sister, Brenda Strange; and numerous nieces and cousins and friends.
Celebration of Life will be held privately.

John Monette
John “JJ” Monette of Koloa passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at his home at the age of 70 after a long battle with emphysema. Born on August 27, 1942 in North Adams, Massachusetts he was a retired flight engineer with the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arsene and Sophie Monette; sister, Arlene Kawamura, and daughter, Susan Monette.
John leaves his wife of 44 years, Tsuyuko Monette, Koloa; his son, Patrick Monette (Suzanne), Koloa; his grandson, Patrick Monette, California; his brother Bob (Auring) Monette, Maine, and many close friends.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, January 11 at 11:00am at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.

Leoneen Headen
Leoneen “Grandma Lee” Headen passed away at her home on December 28, 2012 at the age of 88. Born on March 14, 1924 in Guyana, South America, she was a retired hostess for Hula Girl and Coco Palms.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeanette Dietz; 3 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 12 great great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Church from 8:00 am to 9:45 am where a memorial mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am.

Amipeleasi “Valeti” Langi
Amipeleasi “Valeti” Langi of Lihue passed away on January 1, 2013, at the age of 54. He was born in Tonga on October 7, 1958, and was in the construction industry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Inoke and Mele Langi; brothers, Niu and Sinaipa; sister, Luisa Tiueti.
He is survived by his wife, Uila Langi, sons, Amipeleasi F. Langi; daughter, Uila A. Langi; three brothers, Fatani (Monuia) Langi, Tevitapau (Leslie) Langi, Noa (Ileini) Langi; five sisters, Selomiti (Sikota) Soakai, Lokeli (Suli) Liavaa, Kato (Fonise) Makisi, Louhuni (Puli) Tuihalafatai, Lesieli (Stanley) Domingo; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A wake service will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2013, at Lihue Methodist Church with viewing from 5:00 p.m. and services celebrated at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 7, 2013, with services beginning at 9:00 a.m. burial to follow at Lihue Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.

Anna Sloggett
Anna Charlotte Scott Sloggett of Lihue passed away at home on January 2, 2013, at the age of 106. She was born in Lihue, Kauai on September 17, 1906, and retired from Wilcox Elementary School as a teacher.
She is survived by her daughter, Marion Scott Penhallow of Hilo, and son, David Penhallow Scott of Lihue.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, January 18, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. with graveside services at Lihue Cemetery.
Kauai Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Margarita Cabalce Dawa
Margarita Cabalce Dawa of Hanalei passed away on January 1, 2013 at the age of 76. Born on November 26, 1936 in Pozorrubio, Pangasinan, Philippines, she was a self-employed Taro Farmer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maximo Dawa; companion, Canuto Tangonan; father, Felipe Cabalce; and mother, Maria Blanza.
She is survived by her sons, Rudolfo (Maria-deceased) Mantanan, Romeo Dawa, and Remegio (Amanda) Tangonan; daughters, Marissa (Brent) Batterman, Maxima (Michael) Schmidt, Marilyn (Larry) Dawa-Loos; step-children, Abraham (Elvira) Tangonan, Grace Bancud, Genoveva (Diosdado) Yabes, and Myrna (Felix) Rodriguez; 15 grandchildren, Violeta, Virginia, Rommel, Rainier, Leah, Sheena, Rocky, Naomi, Cassey, Britney, Matthew, Luke, Mikala, Rylee, Alexa; 7 great-grandchildren, Kapono, Tiffany, Eliana, Shyli, Kyra, Ryann, and Nnyken; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, January 14, 2013 at St. Williams Church in Hanalei from 9:00 am to 9:45 am where mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am; burial to follow at St. Catherine’s Church Cemetery.

Sherman Merle of Kilauea, Kauai, formerly of Florida passed away on December 31, 2012 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 90. Born on February 3, 1922 in New York, he was a retired college professor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Solomon and Rose Merle.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Merle; daughters, Fern (Michael) Merle-Jones, Carol (James) Fishman; 4 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, January 7, 2013 at Kauai Veterans Cemetery, Hanapepe; Service to begin at 10:00 a.m.

Stanton “Dale” Romsdal
Stanton “Dale” Romsdal of Kapaa, Kauai, Hawaii passed away on December 29, 2012 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 89. Born on December 30, 1922 in York, Nebraska, he was a retired professor for Colorado State University.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lucy Romsdal.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Romsdal; daughters, Dana Romsdal, and Kirsten “Leigh” Romsdal; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins and friends.
Celebration of life will be held privately.

Misako Kawamoto
Misako Kawamoto of Koloa, Kauai, died on December 20, 2012 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 99. Born on December 25, 1912 in Kalaheo, Kauai, she was a housekeeper with Prince Kuhio Hotel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Shigeo Kawamoto; parents, Zensaku and Haru Nishi; brothers, John (Alice) Nishi and Shigekazu (Tsurue) Nishi; and sister, Gladys (Edward) Kikuchi.
She is survived by her daughters, Patsy (Richard) Ihara of Lihue, Jean (Thomas) Tsuruda of Honolulu, Nancy (Thomas) Koga of Lawai, and Joyce (Clarence) Higashi of Lihue; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Private services were held.
