KAPA‘A – You haven’t had real coffee until you’ve tried the coffee and Passion Bakery Cafe.
When I asked Michael Sterioff, owner of Passion Bakery Cafe, what he thought would be a good choice for the Drink of The Week, he replied, “I’m going to go inside and make us some real Italian coffee.”
After five minutes of working to make this week’s drink on an espresso machine, Sterioff’s end result was a charming double-shot of a fabulous espresso that costs only $1.85.
“This is called Lavazza,” Sterioff said. “It’s a double-shot; the Italians drink ‘em short. This here is more typical of the American espresso shot. It think it’s one of the best and cheapest on the island.”
Sterioff said that the PBC’s espresso is coffee at its purest – smooth with no bitter taste.
“It’s not overdosed in water, not bitter and it’s one brew that I can drink without sugar,” Sterioff explained as he sipped on the freshly brewed espresso.
Sterioff initially wanted to make a mocha for this week’s drink, but he decided that Lavazza is the essence of real coffee drinking.
The PBC’s Espresso is the perfect complement to the baked goods sold at the cafe. Having tried Lavazza for the first time, I can say that it’s like nothing I’ve ever had before. It’s like going from instant coffee to brewed coffee – once you’ve had a sip, you’ll be hooked.
It is honestly one of the best tasting espressos I’ve had in a long, long time.
PBC is also home to over a dozen different types of coffees, lattes and teas. Syrups can be added and include caramel, hazelnut and sugar-free vanilla. Hot beverages range from $1.85 to $4.55, and cold beverages range from $2.80 to $5.10.
