LIHU‘E — There will be no shortage of festive goings-on at the Kaua‘i Museum this weekend.
The museum celebrates the days of old on Friday with its first-ever Hawaiian Pa‘ina, a traditional feast complete with live Hawaiian music and award-winning local cuisine.
The Friday event is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the newly renovated Kaua‘i Museum Courtyard and offers a perfect complement to the free walking tour of Kaua‘i’s Historic County Building.
The walking tour begins at 10 a.m. and celebrates the upcoming 100-year anniversary of the state’s oldest operating county building.
Immediately following the tour, locals and visitors will gather together in the courtyard to take in live Hawaiian music and feast on traditional cuisine by award-winning chef Mark Oyama of Mark’s Place in Lihu‘e.
Christobel Kealoha and Albert Genovia will entertain the crowd, welcoming song requests and a sing-a-long, according to Kaua‘i Museum Membership Manager Lyah Kama-Drake.
The lunch menu consists of garden greens with sunrise papaya seed dressing, taro and sweet potato salad, fresh pineapple, lemon and kaffir lime rice pilaf, grilled kalbi chicken, pulehu steak with sauteed mushrooms and onions, crispy crab and wasabi aioli-topped baked fish. Coconut tapioca “halo halo” will be served for dessert and iced tea and water will be available at the beverage station.
Kama-Drake said participants can expect “really good Hawaiian music and a relaxing atmosphere.”
The cost is $15 per person and attire is casual.
Reservations for the Hawaiian Pa‘ina are limited and the event is expected to sell out.
Confirm your reservation by today by calling the Kaua‘i Museum at 245-6931 or online at www.kauaimuseum.org.
On Saturday, as part of its monthly ‘Ohana Day, the museum will host the Filipino Fiesta.
